AS FWD The Next Generation
American Stage is committed to AS FORWARD, shaping the future of live theatre in Tampa Bay – Engaging the next generation of Artists & Audiences.
We are proud to announce a new initiative inspired by American Stage’s commitment to the long-term future of our organization and to professional live theatre throughout Tampa Bay and beyond. With a quickly evolving cultural landscape, there are some questions which we must address:
Who will shape the future of the American theatre?
Who will perform on, design and direct for our stages?
Who will market, advance and lead our theatres?
Who will fill the seats, champion our programs & engage with our work?
These questions led the leadership team at American Stage to create an unprecedented initiative committed to developing the future artists, audiences and advocates of professional live theatre. Our Youth Initiative is comprised of three major pillars of forward-looking opportunities, including one pillar that’s a bold experiment for the year 2018.
“As I thought about American Stage’s role as an arts leader, I began to think more seriously about our responsibility to this art form and to the community we serve… With our Youth initiative, teens and young adults will have unprecedented access to our work and will have the opportunity to make theatre a regular part of their lives… We believe in this effort and are committed to making it work for the community and for American Stage.” – Stephanie Gularte, Producing Artistic Director

“The American Stage apprentice program culminates each year in this original work that reflects the passionate and powerful voices of the next generation of theatre professionals. This year’s apprentices bring their uniquely talented and insightful perspectives to this fresh work about art, society and the future. I’m very proud to feature the THE GAP AND THE GLUE on our mainstage as we conclude our LIFE. OUT LOUD. season.” says producing artistic director, Stephanie Gularte. This collaborated work is a chance for these young theatre makers to discover their creative voice and take the necessary steps to put their voice out into the world.
Meet the 2018-2019 Apprentices
Kaylie is incredibly excited to be able to engage with the St. Pete theatre community through the work happening at American Stage, and is eager to begin collaborating with her fellow apprentices.
She is very excited to be a part of the apprentice team this year. She looks forward to the hands-on experience working as stage and production management apprentice at American Stage as well as working in different departments. She believes hard work pays off. Working with the professionals at American Stage will definitely help her to grow and learn to become a professional as well!
