    A Tampa Bay Area Premiere
    September 20 – October 15, 2017

WE THE PEOPLE…WILL FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTFUL PLACE
Charismatic African-American boxer Jay “The Sport” Jackson has a burning desire to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. But it’s 1905, and in the racially segregated world of boxing, his chances are as good as being knocked out. When a crooked boxing promoter hatches a plan for “the fight of the century,” “The Sport” just might land a place in the ring with the reigning white heavyweight champion. This stylized and stunning play about the life of an outsider in American culture explores one man’s struggle while reflecting a much broader one.

When Rikki Tikki Tavi washes up in a pristine garden, Darzee, the sassy tailor bird, is not amused and refuses to share. Darzee and her friend, Chuchu, pull out the stops attempting to run off the pesky mongoose. But watch out for Nag, the cobra! The other animals will have to band together when Nag sets his sights on Rikki! This hilarious adaptation of the Kipling classic offers a poignant message about sharing and collaboration, and encourages us all to acknowledge the power of “we” instead of “me.”

    WORKSHOP DETAILS
All Improvapalooza workshops take place at American Stage (163 3rd St N, St Petersburg, FL) on Sunday, October 29th.

FREE FORM with Will Luera, 10am-12pm
Explore the mechanics of free-form improvisation, an exciting and empowering genre that elevates and challenges improv performers. This mindset is built on the concept of “follow the funny” and proposes that every single moment, beat, line and movement in a show can be deconstructed and used to lead you to the next scene. During this exploration and deconstruction of content, a language and pattern are established that help define form where previously there was no form. In this 2-hour intensive, students will explore basic tools that set the foundation for free-form, such as listening, observation, being “in the moment”, pinpointing what the show wants, and fluid editing.
Will Luera is Director of Improv at Florida Studio Theatre, and hails from Improv Boston.
