This first federation was exhausted by the battles and divisions that struck the workers between the First and Second World War, especially the Great Depression. But in 1956, the need for unity was obvious. The two main centres of work of the time, which followed the national leadership of the Canadian Labour Congress, joined together to re-found the BC Federation of Labour.
