Star of GOOD PEOPLE, Rebecca Dines, shares some background on her character, the rehearsal process, and what audiences can expect when GOOD PEOPLE begins performances on September 7th.

GOOD PEOPLE by David Lindsay-Abaire
directed by Stephanie Gularte

Welcome to Southie, a Boston neighborhood where a night on the town means a few rounds of bingo, where this month’s paycheck covers last month’s bills, and where Margie Walsh has just been let go from yet another job. Facing eviction and scrambling to catch a break, Margie thinks an old fling who’s made it out of Southie might be her ticket to a fresh new start. But is this apparently self-made man secure enough to face his humble beginnings? Margie is about to risk what little she has left to find out. With his signature humorous glow, Lindsay-Abaire explores the struggles, shifting loyalties and unshakeable hopes that come with having next to nothing in America.

THE PITMEN PAINTERS – Folk Art in Our Community

By | Pitmen Painters | No Comments

American Stage present THE PITMEN PAINTERS by Lee Hall, directed by Brendon Fox.

This true story (Now Playing through August 14) following British miners unexpectedly becoming art-world sensations has not only inspired raves from audiences and critics alike, but also encouraged us to think about folk art, or “outsider” art, in our own community.

TAKE A LOOK at what our friends at Creative Clay had to say when we paid them a visit and don’t miss your chance to see the show BroadwayWorld.com calls “one of the best shows of the year!”

A BIG thank you to the staff and artists at Creative Clay for sharing their story, their art, and their passion with us.

CRITICS

“…an ambitious undertaking…well acted…you would have to really hate thoughtful questions about self-expression and who regulates it not to enjoy this play and its many laugh-out-loud moments.”

-Andrew Meacham, Tampa Bay Times
Review: ‘The Pitmen Painters’ Digs Into Weighty Subjects With a Light Touch

“Refreshing … notable…[with] a lot of warm comedy…its heart is big and unafraid. That alone makes it notable — and occasionally a little marvelous.”

-Mark E. Leib, Creative Loafing

American Stage & MFA Collaboration

By | Pitmen Painters | No Comments

MFA partnership

We are proud to be a part of such a diverse, rich, and high quality cultural community. Our current production, THE PITMEN PAINTERS by Lee Hall (Now Playing through August 14 – click here for more information) talks about the importance of accessibility to the arts and, though not everyone will pursue the career of an artist, creativity adds tremendous value our lives. That’s why our friends at the Museum of Fine Arts are extending a special promotion to encourage our guests who see THE PITMEN PAINTERS to engage, learn, and participate in the full spectrum of what the St. Petersburg arts scene has to offer.

American Stage guests presenting a ticket from THE PITMEN PAINTERS receive 20% off General Admission or Annual Membership to the Museum of Fine Arts now through August 31, 2016.

In addition to the expansive MFA Collection, you definitely will not want to miss their exhibitions on display, including Shana Moulton: Journeys Out of the Body – Open through October 9.

Journeys Out of the Body highlights human physicality, but also alternate realms. A sense of magic permeates Shana Moulton’s work, as well as a hopefulness that suggests no one is alone in their quest for health and happiness. #cynthiamfa
