The American Stage Travel Trippers are going to PALM BEACH!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

Here they go again! American Stage’s Travel Trippers are heading to Florida’s East Coast this winter to enjoy holiday cheer, decorations, and festivities at one of the finest ocean-front paradises in the world – the five-star Breakers in Palm Beach!
The Trippers travel across the country to experience world class theatre with the convenience and comfort of having their whole trip planned out to a tee.

This December, the Trippers are going back to Palm Beach.

General Manager, and Lead Tripper, Tom Block shares 5 of the most exciting things on the docket for this year’s Palm Beach Trip:

5. DRIVE-THROUGH SAFARI

The Travel Trippers will be visiting Florida’s only drive-through safari and walk-through amusement park! There, they’ll spend the day on safari with over 1000 animals. With animal displays and encounters, animal feeding experiences, 5 rides, water sprayground, food, shopping and more, they’re sure to have a memorable experience at Lion Country Safari.

4. SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ at Stage Door Theatre

Smokey-Joes

The Trippers will get to experience SMOKEY JOE’S CAFÉ at Broward Stage Door Theatre! Leiber and Stoller, as much as anyone, virtually invented rock ‘n’ roll, and now their songs provide the basis for an electrifying experience that illuminates a golden age of American culture. In an idealized ’50’s setting, the classic themes of love won, lost and imagined blend with hilarious set-pieces and slice-of-life emotions. Featuring nearly 40 of the greatest songs ever recorded, SMOKEY JOE’S CAFE isn’t just great pop music – it’s compelling musical theatre!

3. Disney’s NEWSIES at Maltz Jupiter Theatre

The Trippers will head over to The Maltz to see NEWSIES – A family friendly musical Based on the real-life 1899 New York paperboy strike, Disney Newsies tells the story of the youth who struggle to sell newspapers in order to survive. As paper prices rise, they band together to take on the biggest names in New York media, William Randolph Hearst and Joseph Pulitzer. This Tony Award®-nominated story comes to life in a high-energy explosion of song and dance. This show is perfect for the entire family this holiday … Read the rest

THE TRIPPERS ARE GOING TO THE SHAW FESTIVAL!

By | Uncategorized | No Comments

It’s that time again, the American Stage Travel Trippers are heading to NIAGARA ON THE LAKE for the George Bernard Shaw Festival!

General Manager, and Lead Tripper, Tom Block shares 5 of the most exciting things on the docket for this year’s trip:

5. 4 STAR PRINCE OF WALES HOTEL

Offering close proximity to unique shops and boutiques and just steps from the world renowned Shaw Festival Theatre. The historic Victorian-style hotel has 110 individually decorated guest rooms, an award-winning restaurant, lounge and patio, a world-class spa and a lavish tea room serving afternoon tea daily.

When you step inside the Prince of Wales, you feel like you’€™ve been transported back in time. The lobby is wonderfully ornate with intricate hardwood floors, plush Victorian furniture, a stained glass mural, beautiful sculptures and plenty of fresh roses. Experience luxury and feel like royalty.

4. NIAGARA ON THE LAKE
Niagara4
Niagara-on-the-Lake, often called the loveliest town in Ontario, has a long and distinguished history. Its many attractions include historic sites – Fort George and the Historical Society Museum, the Shaw Festival with its three theatres, the marina, our heritage business district for shopping, golf courses, parks and beautiful farmland, agricultural markets and our world famous Niagara wineries.

3. The Shaw Festival’s production of ME AND MY GIRL
Niagara3

“You don’t understand, do you? You could no more walk the Lambeth way than we could walk the Mayfair way.”
– ME AND MY GIRL

This delightful comic romp from the thirties follows the fortunes of Bill Snibson, a proud Cockney who is amazed to learn that he’s actually the fourteenth Earl of Hareford. But if he wants to claim his title, it looks as if he will have to shed his old life – and love.

With well-loved classic songs including The Lambeth Walk and Leaning on a Lamp Post, Me and My Girl was brilliantly updated by Stephen Fry in 1986 for a run that won a hatful of Olivier, Drama Desk and Tony Awards.

THE ROYALE by Marco Ramirez
A Tampa Bay Area Premiere
September 20 – October 15, 2017

WE THE PEOPLE…WILL FIGHT FOR OUR RIGHTFUL PLACE
Charismatic African-American boxer Jay “The Sport” Jackson has a burning desire to become the undisputed heavyweight champion of the world. But it’s 1905, and in the racially segregated world of boxing, his chances are as good as being knocked out. When a crooked boxing promoter hatches a plan for “the fight of the century,” “The Sport” just might land a place in the ring with the reigning white heavyweight champion. This stylized and stunning play about the life of an outsider in American culture explores one man’s struggle while reflecting a much broader one.

“…(a) breakthrough saga for a new generation.” – Los Angeles Times

“….captures both the beautiful frenzy of boxing and the volatile state of race relations in America.” – The Telegraph

MUCH ADO ABOUT NOTHING by William Shakespeare
A New American Stage Adaptation
November 8 – December 10, 2017

WE THE PEOPLE…ARE RIDICULOUS IN LOVE

As World War II is drawing to a close, Beatrice rails against the roles expected of women of her era. Benedick has just arrived home from the war and is not ready to be tied down. Who needs marriage?! The two face off in a hilarious battle of wits in this American Stage take on the Bard’s famous romantic comedy about the war between the sexes. Full of live music and dance and set against the backdrop of the bright sunshine of the Florida Keys, this exuberant, philosophical, and festive play reminds us that no one is immune when it comes to matters of the heart.

CREATIVE PINELLAS FEATURE

4-part-series

Pinellas County is a destination for creativity. It can be seen on our stages, in our museums, in our art-galleries and studios, at our film festivals and arts shows. It can be heard in our conversations, at our poetry readings and literary events. Creative Pinellas supports all of this activity and energy.

Recently, Julie Garisto teamed up with American Stage to come out with a 4 part series on our theatre. She went behind the scenes of TARTUFFE, sat down with Producing Artistic Director Stephanie Gularte, and shared with readers what’s to come at American Stage and throughout the Tampa Bay area theatre scene.
