School and Community Partners

Pinellas Park Middle School Playwriting Class of 2009

American Stage has many artistic partnerships throughout Pinellas County. It is our mission to bring arts education to everyone in our community, not just a select few.  Through generous funding from our many sponsors, we currently have Artists in Residence at the Pinellas Association of Retarded Citizens, the Juvenile Detention Center, the Suncoast Hospice, the Youth Arts Corps, and the YWCA’s Family Village.

Our Write On! Pinellas program serves at-risk or underperforming students in area schools.  The program brings a Teaching Artist to the school twice a week to teach a playwriting class.   During the semester, students write 10 minute plays that receive staged readings by professional actors at the end of the semester.   We also run drama clubs at several schools, teaching children healthy and productive forms of expression.

Our school partners for 2010-2011 are Lakeview Elementary, Pinellas Park Middle, Madeira Beach Fundamental Middle, Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle, Lakewood High, and Northeast High.

Contact us at 727-823-1600 x 201 or email Meg Heimstead, the Director of Education, mheimstead@americanstage.org, for more information about our community partnerships.
