2011 Summer Camp

Don’t just sit at home this summer.  Sign up for the Teen Summer Institute and have an enriching experience filled with new discoveries and opportunities to enhance your performance skills.   The American Stage Teen Summer Institute can give you the confidence and proficiency needed to excel onstage and beyond.  We have a variety of summer programs led by professional artists that will refine your communication and leadership skills, enhance your creativity and bolster your breadth of experience that is sure to look great on an acting resume or college application.  Our programs are for both the beginners as well as for students who already love the performing arts. 

The American Stage Teen Institute meets Monday-Friday from 9am-3pm. 

The American Stage Teen Summer Institute will be held at First Presbyterian Church in downtown St. Petersburg -

Session I (June 11-22) – Show Choir Goes Broadway (13-17 year olds)

Let your voice shine!  In this program, students will form their own summer show choir.  Emphasis will be placed on mastering complex harmonies, choreography, and “selling” a song.  The program finale is a Broadway inspired showcase for family and friends performed on Friday June 22 at 6pm.
Institute:  9am-3pm - $325 (2 week program)

Session II (June 25-29) – Improvisation (13-17 year olds)

Develop your humor and comic timing! Learn how to think on your feet as you lead others.  Experience how an actor prepares, motivates and listens within a scene developed in the moment.  This program will inspire and expand your creative thinking and communication skills.  This class finale is a performance for family and friends on Friday, June 29 at 6pm.
Institute:  9am-3pm - $165 (1 week program)

Session III (July 2-20)
Musical Theatre – Fiddler on the Roof Jr. (13-17 year olds)

Become a triple threat!  Students work with university faculty and area professionals in music, theatre and dance to refine acting, singing and movement skills.  Beginning with the audition all with way to the final performance students will get a true taste of a professional production.  The program finale is a full production of Fiddler on the Roof Jr. for family and friends performed on Thursday, July 19 at 6pm.
No class on July 4th

Institute:  9am-3pm - $475 (3 week program)

Session IV (July 23-August 4) Original Performance Lab (13-17 year olds)

Be a star in your own show! Experience three great cultural organizations in one program.  Each student will have the opportunity to write and perform a short one person show inspired by either a piece of art or a historical moment.  Students will travel to the Museum of Fine Arts and the St. Petersburg History Museum to explore all performance possibilities during this two week intensive.  Throughout the weeks, students will combine art, history and acting in an exciting and creative way.  This lab will be led by a Seton Hall University professor experienced in original solo performance. Final performances will take place at the Museum of Fine Arts and/or the History Museum for family and friends on Saturday, August 4.  All experience levels will be welcomed and given one-on-one personalized training.
Institute:  9am-3pm - $375 (2 week program)

Session V (August 6-10) – No Fear Shakespeare (13-17 year olds)

Make Shakespeare come alive!  Students will immerse themselves in the language and stories of the most famous playwright of all time.  They will learn how to approach the text as a performer and to find themselves in the stories.  The program finale is with a showcase for family and friends on Friday, August 10 at 6pm.
