“A moving family drama [and] showcase for fine performances by three actors.” - Colette Bancroft, Tampa Bay Times

“Intellectually and emotionally rewarding…Thanks to American Stage’s first-rate production — and the inspired acting of Chris Crawford, Georgina McKee and Brian Webb Russell — Asher’s dilemma is fascinating, meaningful, and deeply moving…terrific acting…Crawford’s Asher is impeccable…Russell as all the other male characters is just as excellent…McKee too is superb…T. Scott Wooten’s staging is extraordinarily sensitive, and Jerid Fox’s set, part Asher’s home, part Jacob’s studio, is excellent…At the performance I attended, the actors were given a standing ovation. For once, it was well-deserved.” - Mark E. Leib, Creative Loafing

“Brilliant…Innovative…Passionate…tremendous…[a] thought-provoking, enlightening, life-changing play…American Stage Theatre Company has once again produced a stunning, ambitious production. How fortunate we are, to reside in the Tampa Bay area, to be able to experience professional, top quality, new productions at a professional, top quality regional theatre…Bravo! DON'T MISS THIS STUNNING PRODUCTION!” - Jimmy Ferraro,

“Stunning…Chris Crawford is a dynamo of emotions [and] plays the character’s shaky conviction perfectly…Georgina McKee [is] luminous…Brian Webb Russell covers broad ground…Director T. Scott Wooten does a terrific job…The staging of the play is at once sure-footed and airy.” - Gina Vivinetto, Articulate (Creative Pinellas)

MY NAME IS ASHER LEV follows the journey of a young Jewish painter torn between his Hassidic upbringing and his desperate need to fulfill his artistic promise. When his artistic genius threatens to destroy his relationship with his parents and community, young Asher realizes he must make a difficult choice between art and faith.
