The Florida Premiere!
By the Waters of Babylon
by Pulitzer Prize winner Robert Schenkkan

EXTENDED thru OCTOBER 19!
Wednesday, October 15 is "Pay What You Can"

American Stage Theatre Company begins its historic 30th anniversary season with the Florida premiere of the romantic and poignant drama, By the Waters of Babylon, extended thru Oct 19.

With By the Waters of Babylon, Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan has created a passionate, tender and bittersweet love story. Catherine is beautiful and outspoken, yet shunned by the neighbors in her small Texas town for reasons unknown. Arturo is the Cuban born day laborer she has hired to rescue her neglected garden. A poet in his native country, he is a broken man with a dark and mysterious past. The hot Texas day turns hotter as these two exiles share a drink and a dance, and try to banish the ghosts that haunt them both. Can these lost souls help one another find their way?

"By the Waters of Babylon is the perfect play to begin our historic 30th anniversary season," said Todd Olson, American Stage's producing artistic director. "This is the first time that this powerful new play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Robert Schenkkan has been produced in our state."

Performances and ticket prices are as follows: Wednesday and Thursday evening curtain is at 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday evening curtain is at 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday matinee curtain is at 3 p.m. Tickets prices are $24-$39 depending on date and time of performance. After Hours @ American Stage
The Vagina Monologues
by Eve Ensler
Sept 23 thru Oct 12

"Spellbindingly funny and almost unbearably moving...a startling piece of theatre...it does raise one's consciousness - but then so does most good art. It rubs the funny bone, sometimes gently, sometimes violently. It alternately warms and saddens the heart. It occasionally shocks the sensibility, it sears the soul, it deserves to be a sell-out again on wildfire word of mouth. An indelible theatrical experience, which is both a work of art and an incisive piece of cultural history, a poem and a polemic, a performance and a balm and a benediction."
-Variety

American Stage Theatre Company begins a new experiment this September, producing edgier shows after Mainstage plays have finished for the night. The first play performed as part of this "after hours" programming will be Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues, running Sept 23 thru Oct 12. Tickets are "pay-what-you-can" with part of the proceeds going to the local YWCA's efforts to help teenage mothers.

To assist with this special event, American Stage is looking for local female celebrities willing to go on stage and "read" a role during each performance. Those interested should e-mail Todd Olson at candtolson@aol.com.

Ever wonder what a vagina would say if it could talk? Find out during the American Stage "After Hours" production of Eve Ensler's revolutionary play The Vagina Monologues. This up close and personal staged reading covers such topics as listing pet names for private parts, telling stories about discovering "down there," and sounding-off about orgasms. A must see for anyone who loves their own (or someone else's) vagina.

"We are excited about opening our 'After Hours @ American Stage' series with as remarkable a piece as The Vagina Monologues," said Todd Olson, American Stage's producing artistic director. "After the outpouring of support for the recent late night performances of An Evening Wasted With the Music of Tom Lehrer, which was co-produced with Economic Stimulus Productions, we wanted to fill the needs of our patrons who are craving after hours theatre."

Performances and ticket prices are as follows: Wednesday thru Saturday evening curtain is at 10:30 p.m. Tuesday and Sunday matinee curtain is at 7 p.m.

Tickets price is "Pay-What-You-Can" at the door.
