"Brilliant, captivating, riveting and breathtakingly suspenseful. One you don't dare ignore. It's provocative and absorbing, and I can't think of anything else like it in the modern theater. The acting in the production is astonishingly good, rising, in Richard Coppinge's case, to something like genius. Either Coppinger was born to play the role of Richard Harkin, or else his lofty talent has become stratospheric...a virtuoso performance that's thrilling to witness. Tom Nowicki's playing of Mr. Lockhart is as chilling as a County Clare winter. Perfectly directed by Todd Olson. The Seafarer is that rarity among contemporary plays, not just a work about religion but a religious work. I'm delighted to have been there."
- Mark Leib, Creative Loafing

"What kept the American Stage production equally in tow was the superb acting, especially of the Devil himself, played by Tom Nowicki. Todd Olson directed this stellar cast on a pickled journey across Allen Loyd's authentically dilapidated set. Nowicki should be pleased to know that he mastered Satan. His performance was smooth, controlled and chilling. Contrasting well with Swan's low-key show of bitter resignation, Coppinger and Russell excelled in comic relief."
- Kathy L. Greenberg, Tampa Tribune

"The Seafarer expertly mixes comedy with a dark side. The splendid cast makes alcoholism seem like quite a lot of fun. But when a stranger who might be the devil shows up for a few hands of poker, and more than a few drinks, a night of wit and blarney becomes very serious, indeed."
- John Fleming, St. Petersburg Times

"Todd Olson directs a very clever production of The Seafarer. Tom Nowicki sends shudders through the audience. Christopher Swan does another exceptional job. The set design, incidentally, is sheer genius. Probably the most elaborate design since American Stage moved to the new theater. Boasting both a Faustian bargain and a Dickensian quest for salvation, The Seafarer draws to a close a successful season for American Stage."
- Lee Clark Zumpe, Tampa Bay Newspaper

The must-see Tampa Bay-area premiere fresh from its recent Broadway run! From the acclaimed playwright of Shining City comes the chilling new play about the sea, Ireland and the power of myth. It's Christmas Eve in Dublin. In the rundown house where Sharky cares for his blind brother, old acquaintances gather for a card game that is joined by an ominous stranger. As the booze flows and the game intensifies, Sharky discovers that he may be playing for his very soul. In this eerie tale, celebrated Irish playwright Conor McPherson examines how we face the demons of our past and struggle for redemption. Some mature language.

Directed by Todd Olson, The Seafarer stars Tom Nowicki (Proof) as Mr. Lockhart, Christopher Swan (This Wonderful Life) as Sharkey, Brian Webb Russell (Chapter 2) as Ivan Curry, Steve Garland (Coronado) as Nicky Giblin and Richard Coppinger (making his American Stage debut) as Richard Harkin.
