Top Three Reasons to See THE PEOPLE DOWNSTAIRS

We are so excited to continue our 19/20 Season AN AMERICAN DREAMSCAPE with the world premiere of THE PEOPLE DOWNSTAIRS. Here are our top three reasons you should come see this endearing comedy about love, loss and healing:

1. . THE PEOPLE DOWNSTAIRS is a world premiere by local playwright Natalie Symons, who developed the play right here at American Stage.
2. The play was selected from 2019’s 21st Century Voices: New Play Festival to be a part of the 19-20 American Dreamscape season.
3. Audiences will connect with the funny, charming, hopeful journey of
unlikely people finding each other.

“There is something particularly special about collaborating with a writer and a creative team on a brand new play. The playwright entrusts a team of artists with her work. The director is the first to stage and sculpt the story. The designers are the first to create the physical world of the play. The actors are the first to breathe life into its characters. And the audience is the first to transform the work into a dynamic, visceral shared experience that only live theatre can offer,” CEO/Producing Artistic Director Stephanie Gularte said. “American Stage is so grateful to have been a part of the journey of THE PEOPLE DOWNSTAIRS, by St. Pete’s own Natalie Symons, since its very first intimate table reading a year and a half ago. Our team is proud to present the world premiere production of this story of two awkward social misfits who hilariously stumble together toward something extraordinary to a live theatre audience for what will be the very first, but certainly not the last, time.”

“At its heart, this play is about people who, by society’s standards, should end up alone, but through pure and simple human connection, they find one another,” Director Chris Crawford said. “We find beauty and truth in humor. It is through joy that we are able to open up and learn more about others and ourselves.”

THE PEOPLE DOWNSTAIRS runs March 11 – April 5
