This Summer, enjoy a range of performances including highlights from American Stage’s production history, to favorite Shakespeare plays, to brand new works by modern playwrights, all told in bite-sized, “Summer Shorts” performances.

Throughout the month of June, enjoy four favorite Shakespeare plays, each performed in under an hour and featuring your favorite American Stage actors.

Live Zoom Performance

Prior to each performance enjoy a brief prologue with insight into the play’s action and characters, and afterward stay for a chat back featuring a Q & A with the cast and director.

  • Romeo and Juliet (June 7)In this quintessential Shakespeare story of young love,  two star-crossed lovers from feuding families are determined to be together at all costs.
  • Comedy of Errors (June 14) – After both being separated from their twins in a shipwreck, Antipholus and his servant Dromio go to Ephesus to find them in this fairytale farce of everyday miracles, mistaken identity and double vision.
  • Othello (June 21) – A tragedy of jealousy about an African general in the Venetian army who is tricked into suspecting his wife of adultery.
  • Twelfth Night (June 28) – Orsino loves Olivia, Olivia loves Cesario and  Cesario’s really a woman disguised as a man who’s fallen for her boss, Orsino in this comedy about gender, power and love.

Advisory: Most Shakespearean plays include mature situations and are best suited for audiences over the age of 12.

5 Nights + 10 Playwrights

Today’s hottest playwrights have given American Stage access to their unique and entertaining short, 10-minute plays.  These small scale creations come alive on any sized screen! 

Live Performances: Thursdays at 8 p.m., July 2 – 30. Two plays per evening plus a chat back with the playwrights, actors and director.

Featuring playwrights from our previous 21st Century Voices: New Play Festivals such as Hal Borden, Jon Bavoso, Jennifer Blackmer and Rachel Lynett; as well as Deborah Zoe Laufer (INFORMED CONSENT) and Jen Silverman (THE ROOMMATE).

Spanning four decades, American Stage has performed over 400 powerful stories for Tampa Bay audiences.  Now, we proudly present The Living Room Plays, featuring selected scenes and favorite artists from over 40 years of beloved American Stage productions all performed on our Virtual Stage, while you watch from the comfort of your home.

Fridays at 8 p.m., beginning on Aug. 14.
