“Oil has been an important economic security factor for many of these countries,” said David Vaskov of the World Resources Institute think tank in Washington, D.C., while retaining the common interests of both Opec and the United States, the world`s largest oil producer. After China, the United States is the second largest emitter of thermal gases such as carbon dioxide and its contribution to reducing emissions is considered important, but it is not the only one in this effort. In recent weeks, China, Japan and South Korea have set national deadlines for the European Union and several other countries not to inject more greenhouse gases into the atmosphere than can be removed from the air with trees and other methods. Under this agreement, China, for example, will be able to increase these emissions by an astonishing number of years – 13. They can do whatever they want for 13 years. We don`t. India is conditional on its participation in receiving billions and billions of dollars in foreign aid from industrialized countries. There are many other examples. But at the end of the day, the Paris agreement is very unfair, at the highest level, to the United States.
Adaptation issues were at the forefront of the paris agreement. Collective long-term adaptation objectives are included in the agreement and countries must be accountable for their adaptation measures, making adaptation a parallel element of the mitigation agreement. Adaptation objectives focus on improving adaptive capacity, resilience and vulnerability limitation. Following the President`s announcement in 2017, several states and companies have pledged to continue their CO2 emissions and to try to compensate for the federal government`s decision to end the U.S. commitment to Paris. Article 28 of the agreement allows the parties to terminate the contract following a notification of an appeal to the custodian. This notification can only take place three years after the agreement for the country comes into force. The payment is made one year after the transfer. Alternatively, the agreement provides that the withdrawal of the UNFCCC, under which the Paris Agreement was adopted, also withdraws the state from the Paris Agreement.
The terms of the UNFCCC`s exit are the same as those of the Paris Agreement. There is no provision in the agreement for non-compliance. No responsible leader can bring workers – and people – of their country into this debilitating and enormous disadvantage. The fact that the Paris Agreement is hampering the United States, while allowing some of the world`s largest polluters, should dispel any doubt as to why foreign lobbyists want to link and bind our great country to this agreement: it is about giving their country an economic advantage over the United States. That will not happen as long as I am president. I am sorry. (Applause) Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden has spoken out in favor of signing the Paris Agreement. As it was created as an executive contract and not as a treaty, congressional approval is not necessary, Purvis said.
Although this has been going on for a long time, there is still a sense of disappointment for many Americans who believe that climate change is the greatest global challenge and that the United States should oppose it.
