Welcome (back) to American Stage!
As we end a very successful run of Footloose in the Park we turn our gaze to our final Mainstage production of the season, Dutchman. The themes of Amiri Baraka's play, written and set in 1960's NYC, continue to resonate - this is a piece that will leave you thinking long after the house lights dim. Along with the production we'll be hosting a series of free Community Conversations prior to and during the run of Dutchman.
We do enriching and meaningful cultural and community events every month. Highlights for me thus far in 2022 have been the staged ready of The Mountaintop by Katori Hall at Todays Church Tampa Bay, the Women's History Month Panel at Studio@620, and our First Mondays play reading series held at Creative Pinellas.
This year we will once again be hosting American Stage's Summer Camp! Camp allows students of all ages to explore their creative side, while showcasing their new skills to friends and family. Our Education Department is putting together a great artistic experience for your kiddos big and small.
In this inaugural issue of the American Stage Arts Guide we are previewing our 22-23 Season, "This is America." What a lineup! We will laugh, cry, sing, rage and ponder as we journey through different time periods in our country while looking at it from different American perspectives. All the while providing a safe haven for those thoughts and feelings.
As we look to our 45th Season, your attendance and financial support through our first 44 years, and particularly since March of 2020, have kept the theatre alive and vibrant. We have pivoted, we have adapted, we have stretched, we have grown, we remain. Thank you for your support, feedback, activism and presence. In a lot of ways our journey, as a theatre and as a people, is starting anew. As we move forward in everything we do I guarantee powerful stories, boldly told.
I'll see you at the theatre, in the park and in the community.
